About the Artist
Born in China in 1970 to Korean parents, C. Ryan grew up navigating the space between cultures — a tension that would quietly shape his artistic voice for decades to come.
From childhood, Ryan demonstrated a rare and instinctive command of color. By high school, that gift had evolved into something more deliberate: a systematic reimagining of color relationships within abstract landscape painting, with a particular focus on the fleeting, organic beauty of abstract tree forms and floral imagery. He wasn’t simply painting — he was building a new visual language.
As an adult, Ryan committed fully to abstract oil painting, producing a substantial body of work that earned recognition across three countries. His accolades include the Asian Gold Picture Design Award, the Chinese Oil Painting Exhibition Award, and the Korean, Chinese, and Japanese Abstract Oil Painting Design Award — a testament to his rare ability to transcend cultural and geographic boundaries through art.
